Mottled Beauty Hummingbird Hawkmoth
Poplar Hawk-moth by David Green   Poplar Hawk-moth distribution

The Poplar Hawkmoth is the most widely spread and frequent hawk-moth in the British Isles.  As its name suggests its larvae feed on poplars but also on sallows and willows.  The adult can be found anywhere the larval food plants grow including parks and gardens.  Both sexes come frequently to light.
