The Striped Lychnis is a Nationally Scarce species with an important core population on the Hampshire chalk.  It inhabits open unshaded sites on roadside verges, embankments and fields that have recently been left fallow.  The larvae feed on mainly on the flowers of Dark Mullein but can also be found in gardens on the new hybrid varieties of Verbascum available in some garden centres.
